Chaim van Luit genomineerd voor Van Bommel Van Dam Prijs 2013
Op zondag 9 juni wordt de 15e Van Bommel Van Dam Prijs uitgereikt tijdens de officiële opening van de gelijknamige tentoonstelling met werk van de twaalf genomineerde kunstenaars. De Van Bommel Van Dam Prijs is een aanmoedigingsprijs voor beeldend kunstenaars tot 35 jaar in de disciplines schilderkunst, werk op papier en fotografie. Deelnemer Chaim van Luit is voor de prijs genomineerd. Van de prijswinnaar wordt een werk aangekocht ten behoeve van de museale collectie. Bovendien ontvangt hij/zij een oorkonde en een bedrag van 5.000 euro. 

Vanaf 2 juni 2013 kan het publiek de ingezonden werken in het museum bekijken. Van 14 september t/m 22 december 2013 is de tentoonstelling te zien in de Rudolf-Scharpf-Galerie van het Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen.

Performing Gender - lezing door Peggy Olislaegers Op vrijdag 24 mei om 14:00 houdt Peggy Olislaegers, artistiek directeur van de Nederlandse Dansdagen, in het auditorium van de Van Eyck een lezing over het project Performing Gender. Performing Gender is een internationale samenwerking tussen dansers, performers, choreografen en kunstenaars. Het project nodigt 16 jonge choreografen uit vier Europese landen uit om samen twee jaar lang aan de slag te gaan met de thema’s seksualiteit en gender. Doel van het project is het creëren van nieuw werk dat verhaalt van nieuwe vormen van hedendaagse identiteit, voor een zo breed en gevarieerd mogelijk publiek. De Van Eyck is één van de betrokken partners; ze biedt twee van haar deelnemers de mogelijkheid aan dit langlopende project deel te nemen.  Performing Gender is een project van het Comitato Provinciale Arcigay Il Cassero di Bologna (IT) en het Gender Bender Festival (IT) samen met de Nederlandse Dansdagen (NL), Paso a 2 Plataforma Coreográfica (ES) en Domino/Queer Zagreb Festival (HR) en vindt plaats in Bologna, Maastricht, Madrid en Zagabria. Deprived of the presence of any water, sound waves become the substitute of the liquid element. Concept and performance are by participant Rodrigo Sobarzo de Larraechea, light design by Jan Fedinger, duration 60min. APNEA is a Het Veem Theater production in co-production with Workspacebrussels and Dance4 Nottingham. Alex Coles — EP
EP is a new series of books founded, co-edited and art-directed by Alex Coles in partnership with the leading Berlin based arts publisher Sternberg Press. Coles will present a seminar on EP on Tuesday 21 May; the day after he will give a workshop for Van Eyck participants which takes the second volume of EP as its starting point.

The seminar is open to the general public - you are most welcome to join!

Alex Coles is author of DesignArt (Tate Publishing, 2005) and The Transdisciplinary Studio (Sternberg Press, 2012) and editor of Design and Art (MIT Press/Whitechapel, 2007). He is Professor of Transdisciplinary Studies at the School of Art, Design and Architecture, University of Huddersfield (UK).

Peeping Tom Digest featuring Charbel-Joseph H. BoutrosThe work of participant Charbel-joseph H. Boutros will be featured in Peeping Tom Digest #3 Beirut, a catalogue/cartography on the Lebanese contemporary art scene. Peeping Tom’s Digest is an experimental and subjective publication dedicated to contemporary art. Each issue focuses on trends and movements of a particular geographic area and highlights the artists and initiatives represented within it.

The work of participant Charbel-joseph H. Boutros will be featured in Peeping Tom Digest #3 Beirut, a catalogue/cartography on the Lebanese contemporary art scene. Peeping Tom’s Digest is an experimental and subjective publication dedicated to contemporary art. Each issue focuses on trends and movements of a particular geographic area and highlights the artists and initiatives represented within it.

BRIEFLY, BALLARE - Sound installation and book presentation

BRIEFLY, BALLARE is an artist’s book created by Riccardo Benassi as a response to an unexpected and enlightening event: in a Museum visitors’ book the signatories made complaints – which soon turned to anger – with regard to a work by the artist in question. Partly essay, sentimental diary and critical pamphlet, BRIEFLY, BALLARE may be considered as an autonomous work of art, a journey in which sound and language interweave and abandon one another with view to bringing about new situations. A limited edition of 82 numbered copies are accompanied by a vinyl of the sound work which gave rise to this journey. 

Briefly, Ballare was curated by participant Alessandra Saviotti in collaboration with Marianna Liosi. On Thursday 9 May, the work will be on show at the Van Eyck. Please see the agenda for more info and programme. 

Werkbezoek minister Bussemaker
Op 6 mei bracht de minister van OCW, Jet Bussemaker, een werkbezoek aan de Van Eyck.. Zij sprak met de directeur, Lex ter Braak, en twee deelnemers, Chaim van Luit en Rodrigo Hernandez, over de betekenis van de Van Eyck als postacademische instelling voor talentontwikkeling. Zij begreep de kansen en mogelijkheden van het multidisciplinaire karakter van de Van Eyck. Daarna liet zij zich rondleiden door het gerenoveerde gebouw en de tuinen. Zij toonde zich onder de indruk van het elan en de inzet waarmee de bedreigingen van de bezuinigingen gepareerd waren. Zij noemde de vernieuwde Van Eyck een plek ‘om te koesteren’ en zei tot slot zeker terug te komen.

Zij vormt met de poort, de poortweg, de appartementen van de Van Eyck en het Heimo Lab hout een monumentaal ensemble dat in de jaren ‘80 door de Van Eyck verworven werd. Het vormt een mooi contrast met de modernistische bouw van Peutz. De Annex is, naar ontwerp van Architecten I en I en uit Eindhoven, precies zo gerestaureerd als het was – waardoor haar bijzondere karakter behouden is gebleven.
