Ella Klaschka (Design researcher 2002–2003) has realized the artist’s book A novel of distractions, in collaboration with artist Ayreen Anastas. In this book Anastas, now based in New York, reacts to Klaschka’s fascination for her place of birth, Bethlehem. In poetic phraseology she describes her school years in this Palestinian town. She remembers the names of her classmates, the classical morning prayer, the colour of the clothes then worn, etc. These personal memories have been presented in Klaschka’s handwriting, together with photos Klaschka took of Anastas in various roles and situations, dating from 1999 onwards. Both subject and exchange between the two artists seem to suggest A novel of distraction is a unique diary made by an artist's duo.
