Jacques Lacan's final teaching has rarely been discussed without a certain malaise. One of the reasons for this malaise can be seen in the fact that the later developments concern the limits of psychoanalysis and detach it from its ‘traditional’ connections and alliances, notably with philosophy and science. Simultaneously, Lacan declares his anti-philosophical position, which, in philosophy, is often perceived as an insult.
In his late proposition on teaching psychoanalysis at university, anti-philosophy is linked to three disciplines: linguistics, mathematical logics and topology. Together they form a disciplinary knot that should serve as a tool for transmission of knowledge. On the other hand, to a psychoanalyst, they all offer an orientation in thinking. This orientation concerns the question of the real, which is for Lacan not a matter of cognition, but rather that of invention.
In 2010, my research work concerns the development of the concept of the real in Lacan's teaching. It follows the proposed disciplinary quadrivium, focusing on the subversion of linguistics through the concept of enjoyment, the paradoxes of mathematical formalisation, topological materialism and anti-philosophical forcing of thinking.
