Land / Made
As part of the conference Books & the City, which takes place from June 22-24, curator Barbara Garrie set up an exhibition in the project space with works by Van Eyck participant Kristina Benjocki and Cleo Wächter, Lillo Baurer, Gladys Zeewaarders and Tjalling de Vries.
The exhibition is on show until Friday, July 1st, open during the opening hours of the Van Eyck Institute (Mon-Fri 9:00 to 18:00)
Signs of human interventions in the landscape are evident across the city of Maastricht and the surrounding region. These interventions – some more visible than others – are physical traces of the way in which nature and culture have become inextricably intertwined. Taking its cue from anthropocene thinking, Land / Made alludes to the multiple ways in which the landscape of Maastricht is physically etched with cultural, economic and political meanings that tell much about the past of the city but which might also inform its future direction.
