Type & CharactersA manifestation comprising an exhibition, a publication, performances, screenings and discussions. Among the participants are David Bennewith (advising researcher Design) and Jasper Coppes (former researcher Fine Art); the exhibition is curated by Paul Gangloff (former researcher Design). Type & Characters is a project by M4gastatelier and will be on show from 21 to 23 September 2012 at the Lettergieterij in Amsterdam (NL).

*Latent Stare**Latent Stare* is an exhibition project that looks at the discipline of type-design through a particular critical lens. The project has been assembled by David Bennewith, who has been working on the subject as an advising researcher of Jan van Eyck Academie’s Design department since 2010 and who is Casco’s new visual identity designer.  With contributions by Hinrich Sachs, Paul Elliman, Runa Islam, Peter Verheul, Luke Wood, Herman Damen, Karl Nawrot, Jo De Baerdemaeker, Paul Chan, Vasilis Marmatakis, Ji Lee, Christoph Knoth, Frank Adebiaye, Joseph Churchward, Amber Frid-Jimenez, Felix Weigand.  The exhibition opens on Sunday 8 July, 15:00 at Casco in Utrecht (NL) and will be on show until 30 September 2012.

Lying Freely — Ruth Buchanan
Lying Freely is het vierde en laatste deel van het reizende project van kunstenares Ruth Buchanan. In de ruimte van het boek komen de drie vorige fasen van het project – een rondleiding, een theaterstuk en een installatie – samen. Het boek wordt zo een experiment in het delen van materiaal en ruimte: het reflecteert op zijn eigen voorwaarden en de voorwaarden waarop het publiek wordt.  

Lying Freely — Ruth Buchanan 
Lying Freely is the fourth and final part of the itinerant project by artist Ruth Buchanan. Here the three previous stages of the project meet within and are also confronted by the space of the book. The book was made in close collaboration with designer David Bennewith and developed accumulatively as each stage of the project was ‘completed’. Over the course of two years, Buchanan investigated questions surrounding the tension between private need and public appearance, individual agency and collectively received legacy, producing a series of works that each dealt with particular constellations of figure, location and format. The three stages consisted of a guided tour, theatre piece and installation. The book behaves on the one hand as a schematic or script for the body of work, drawing boundaries – and on the other hand it proposes a method, an approach that suggests constant repetition and following, constant reconfiguration. The book becomes an experiment in sharing material, sharing space; absorbing and reflecting its own conditions and the conditions under which it becomes public.
