Three Artists Walk into a Bar…

De Appel Curatorial Programme 2011-2012 presenteert Three Artists Walk into a Bar…, een serie werken en interventies die buiten de traditionele tentoonstellingsruimte plaatsvinden. De speciaal voor dit project vervaardigde werken zullen daarnaast via discussies, gesprekken en openbare bijeenkomsten in de Appel Jongensschool en de website www.threeartistswalkintoabar.com hun weg vinden naar het publiek. Door de eigenschappen van humor aan te wenden wordt de potentie van kunst als kritisch instrument om sociale, politieke en culturele kwesties te analyseren op de proef gesteld. Tegelijkertijd wordt door de onconventionele structuur een gemeenschap van peers, experts en verschillende publieken samengebracht. De keuze voor humor komt voort uit het geloof in diens sociale aspecten; de eigenschap om subversieve stemmen en onderdrukte perspectieven naar boven te halen.

De Jan van Eyck Academie is verheugd opnieuw aan de Appel Curatorial Programme te kunnen meewerken. Vanuit de Jan van Eyck nemen Haseeb Ahmed, Marwa Lamia Arsanios, Clifford Borress, Steven Chodoriwsky, Adrià Julià, Alexi Kukuljevic, Nathania Rubin en Jeff Weber deel aan het programma. De Appel Curatorial Programme 2011-2012 presents Three Artists Walk into a Bar…, a series of works and interventions taking place outside the traditional exhibition space. Furthermore, the works, purpose-made for this project, will be made accessible to the public through discussions, talks and public meetings in de Appel Boys’ School and via the website www.threeartistswalkintoabar.com. By employing the properties of humour, the potential of art as a critical instrument to analyse social, political and cultural issues is put to the test. At the same time, the project’s unconventional structure brings together a community of peers, experts and various audiences. The choice for humour stems from a belief in its social aspects: its ability to elicit subversive voices and repressed perspectives. 

The Jan van Eyck Academie is pleased to be able to collaborate once again with de Appel Curatorial Programme. From the Jan van Eyck Haseeb Ahmed, Marwa Lamia Arsanios, Clifford Borress, Steven Chodoriwsky, Adrià Julià, Alexi Kukuljevic, Nathania Rubin and Jeff Weber are participating in the programme.
