Aanmeldingen
De Jan van Eyck Academie biedt kunstenaars, ontwerpers en theoretici de kans hun talent verder te ontwikkelen. De academie stelt de kennis van haar medewerkers, de ervaring van professionals uit het veld, en haar vele faciliteiten ten dienste van toptalent dat aan de academie de ideale omgeving ervaart die nodig is om te excelleren. De vrijheid om nieuwe wegen te bewandelen, de rust en ruimte voor reflectie, de stimulans tot discussie, de passie voor het vak – de Jan van Eyck heeft het allemaal in huis. 

Elk jaar stelt de academie 48 onderzoeksplekken ter beschikking. De invulling van deze plekken vindt plaats na een uitgebreide en strenge selectieprocedure op basis van portfolio en projectvoorstel. 

Kunstenaars, ontwerpers en theoretici die een aanmelding overwegen, zijn van harte welkom de academie te bezoeken. Een afspraak maken is niet nodig; de Jan van Eyck Academie is toegankelijk voor publiek van maandag tot en met vrijdag van 9:00 tot 17:00 uur. Applications
The Jan van Eyck Academie offers artists, designers and theoreticians the opportunity to nurture their talent. The academy puts the expertise of its staff, the experience of professionals from within the field, and its many facilities at the disposal of top-class talented researchers who thus find themselves in the ideal environment to excel. The freedom to go off the beaten track, time and space for reflection, the encouragement to participate in discussions, passion – the Jan van Eyck provides all of this. 

Each year the academy offers 48 research positions, which are filled after an extensive and strict selection procedure, based on portfolio and project proposal.  

Artists, designers and theoreticians considering to apply are more than welcome to visit the academy. It is not necessary to make an appointment; the Jan van Eyck Academie is open to the public from Mondays to Fridays, from 9:00 until 17:00 hours. Profiel
De Jan van Eyck Academie verwacht van onderzoekers een open houding en de bereidheid over de eigen grenzen heen te stappen. De academie vindt het vanzelfsprekend dat onderzoekers zich actief verhouden tot het instituut en de andere onderzoekers (zowel binnen als buiten de eigen afdeling) en tot het culturele veld waarin de Jan van Eyck zich beweegt. 

Kunstenaars, ontwerpers en theoretici komen in aanmerking voor een onderzoeksplek als zij:
— een niveau hebben behaald dat gelijkwaardig is aan een mastertitel, bij voorkeur aangevuld met enkele jaren professionele ervaring;
— in staat zijn hun onderzoeksvoorstel zelfstandig uit te voeren en af te ronden;
— in staat zijn zich onafhankelijk tot hun discipline of tot een collectief onderzoeksproject te verhouden.

De Jan van Eyck Academie verwelkomt kunstenaars, ontwerpers en theoretici van over de hele wereld. De voertalen van het instituut zijn Nederlands en Engels; onderzoekers worden geacht in ieder geval het Engels voldoende machtig te zijn. De meeste onderzoekers zijn bij aanvang van hun verblijf aan de Jan van Eyck Academie tussen de 25 en 35 jaar oud. 

Het academisch jaar loopt van 1 januari tot 31 december. Kandidaten kunnen zich aanmelden voor een onderzoeksperiode van 1 of 2 jaar, of voor een flexibele periode van minimaal 1 en maximaal 24 maanden. 

Profile
The Jan van Eyck Academie expects its researchers to be open-minded and prepared to step over their own boundaries. To the academy it is a matter of course that researchers actively engage with the institute and their fellow researchers (including those beyond their own departments) as well as with the cultural field that the Jan van Eyck relates to.
 
Artists, designers and theoreticians are eligible for a research position if they:
— have attained a level equivalent to a master’s degree, and preferably have some years of professional experience;
— are able to carry out the aims, methodologies and realisation of their projects independently;
— can independently relate to the discipline of fine art, design or theory or to a collective research project.

The Jan van Eyck welcomes artists, designers and theoreticians from all over the world. The languages of communication in the institute are Dutch and English. Researchers are expected to have an adequate command of English. At the beginning of their research period, most researchers are between 25 and 35 years old.

The academic year runs from 1 January until 31 December. Candidates can apply for a research period of 1 or 2 years, or for a different period of time (from 1 month up to 24 months). 

Praktische zaken

De academie voorziet in praktische zaken zoals studioruimte, stipendium en productiebudget. Uiteraard kunnen onderzoekers gebruik maken van alle faciliteiten: werkplaatsen, bibliotheek, tentoonstellingsruimten voor exposities en try-outs, auditoria, en meer. Een professionele staf biedt ondersteuning bij het gebruik van de verschillende faciliteiten door technische kennis en een kritische blik. Practical matters
The academy provides practical matters, such as a studio, stipend and production budget. Naturally, researchers can make use of all facilities: workshops, library, gallery spaces for expositions and try-outs, auditoriums, and more. Professional members of staff offer assistance in the use of several facilities by providing technical knowledge and a critical perspective. Locatie

De Jan van Eyck Academie is gelegen in Maastricht, de meest zuidelijke universiteitsstad van Nederland. Het conservatorium, de kunstacademie, de universiteit en het stadspark liggen om de hoek. Ook het buitenland is dichtbij: steden als Brussel (120 km), Parijs (400 km), Londen (490 km) en Berlijn (680 km) zijn in één tot enkele uren bereikbaar.

Aangenomen kandidaten kunnen zich wenden tot het onderzoekerssecretariaat voor hulp bij het zoeken naar woonruimte, het aanvragen van visum of verblijfsvergunning, en andere zaken die te maken hebben met het verblijf in Maastricht. 

Location
The Jan van Eyck Academie is situated in Maastricht, the most southern university town of The Netherlands. The music academy, the art academy, the drama academy and the university can be found just around the corner. It is also near the border: several foreign cities, such as  Brussels (120 km), Paris (400 km), London (490 km) and Berlin (680 km) can be reached in a relatively short amount of time. 

Admitted candidates can turn to the researchers’ secretariat for help in their search for accommodation, applying for a visa or permit, and other matters relating to their stay in Maastricht.  

Procedure

Een aanmelding dient te bestaan uit de volgende onderdelen:

Het aanmeldingsformulier en informatie over de te volgen procedure worden ruim voor de deadline op deze website gepubliceerd. 

Na het verstrijken van de deadline vindt een eerste selectie plaats op basis van de kwaliteit van het onderzoeksvoorstel, de relatie van het voorstel tot de mogelijkheden van het instituut, en het getoonde werk van de betreffende kandidaat. 

De selectiecommissie, bestaande uit de adviserend onderzoekers van de betreffende afdeling en de directeur, nodigt geselecteerde kandidaten uit voor een interview. Daarna maakt de selectiecommissie een definitieve keuze. De Jan van Eyck Academie biedt geen financiële ondersteuning voor zaken die gerelateerd zijn aan de aanmeldingsprocedure, zoals reis- en verblijfkosten.

Documentatiemateriaal dat bij de aanmelding is bijgevoegd, wordt zo snel mogelijk geretourneerd. Documentatiemateriaal van geselecteerde kandidaten wordt opgenomen in de collectie van het documentatiecentrum, behalve als het om uniek werk gaat. De Jan van Eyck Academie aanvaardt geen aansprakelijkheid voor verlies of beschadiging van documentatiemateriaal.

Procedure
An application must include the following components:

The application form and information about the application procedure will be published on this website in ample time before the deadline for submitting your application. 

Once the application deadline has passed, a first selection will be made, based on the quality of the research proposal, the relation of the proposal to the possibilities of the institute, and the documented work of the candidate in question. The selection committee, consisting of the advising researchers of the department and the director of the Jan van Eyck, will invite selected candidates for an interview. After that, the selection committee makes a final choice. The Jan van Eyck Academie does not provide financial support for matters concerning the application procedure, such as travelling or accommodation.

Documentation material will be returned to all candidates as soon as possible. The documentation material of selected researchers will become part of the collection of the documentation centre, except when it concerns unique work.
