Labs
De Jan van Eyck Academie beschikt over een aantal werkplaatsen voor technisch experiment met gebruik van verschillende materialen en technieken – zoals hout, metaal, grafiek, drukwerk, fotografie, audio en video. Deze faciliteiten worden voortdurend aangepast aan de vraag van onderzoekers en aan de nieuwste ontwikkelingen op technisch gebied.
Begeleidend personeel biedt technische ondersteuning en kennis over de artistieke gevolgen van het gebruik van verschillende materialen en media. Voor het gebruik van aanvullende faciliteiten werkt de Jan van Eyck Academie samen met collega-instellingen.
Ook derden zijn welkom om in de Jan van Eyck faciliteiten te werken en te experimenteren. Voor meer informatie, waaronder prijzen en beschikbaarheid, kunt u contact opnemen met de contactpersoon van het betreffende lab.
Labs
The Jan van Eyck Academie has several workshops for technical experiment in a range of materials and media – like wood, metals, printing, publishing, photography, audio, video. These facilities are constantly adjusted to the demand of researchers and the latest technological developments.
Staff members offer support and expertise pertaining to the artistic consequences of the use of various materials and techniques. The Jan van Eyck Academie collaborates with other institutes with regard to the use of complementary facilities.

Werner Mantz Lab – Time-Based Art
De opkomst van het nationaalsocialisme doet de Duitse fotograaf Werner Mantz (1901–1983) in 1938 besluiten zich in Maastricht te vestigen. Het Werner Mantz Lab is blij onder zijn naam ruimte te kunnen geven aan zogeheten time-based art: fotografie, film en video, geluidskunst en computerkunst. Sinds 1980 heeft de Jan van Eyck Academie een naam opgebouwd op het gebied van de time-based arts. Als een van de eerste instellingen in Europa zag zij de artistieke mogelijkheden van video- en mixed mediakunst en bouwde zij een videostudio om eigen producties mogelijk te maken.
Ook nu staan de camera’s en montagetafels klaar, net als de computers, een ruis- en storingsvrije geluidscabine en uiteraard een doka. In de regio zijn er weinig tot geen mogelijkheden voor nieuwe media-producties. Het Werner Mantz Lab voorziet in die behoefte en staat garant voor bijzondere producties, niet in de laatste plaats door het enthousiasme en de professionaliteit van zijn medewerkers. Het Werner Mantz Lab werkt samen met FLACC en C-mine in Genk (BE) en de regionale omroep L1.

Werner Mantz Lab – Time-Based Art
Due to the rise of National Socialism German photographer Werner Mantz (1901–1983) decides to move to Maastricht in 1938. The Werner Mantz Lab is pleased to accommodate the so-called time-based arts – photography, film and video, audio and computer art – under his name. Ever since 1980 the Jan van Eyck Academie has established a name for itself in the field of time-based arts. It was one of the first institutes in Europe to see the artistic possibilities of video art and mixed media art, so it built a video studio to enable the making of its own productions.
These days, too, there are cameras and montage sets, as well as computers, a anechoic chambre and, of course, a darkroom. The region offers little or no opportunities for making new media productions; the Werner Mantz Lab meets this need and guarantees special productions, not least by virtue of the enthusiasm and professionalism of its staff. The Werner Mantz Lab collaborates with FLACC and C-mine in Genk (BE) as well as regional broadcasting station L1.
