Tom Kok (NL)
The work of Tom Kok (b. 1987, NL) mainly consists of sculptural installations, video’s and performances emerging from an interest in the instrumentalisation of the world. Through language systems, historical events and artifacts, disapproved paradigms and unfortunate mistakes, Kok’s work processes the consequences of science and technology. By means of abstraction and surreal humor, Kok’s works succeed in surpassing their original theoretical frameworks and manage to transform them into a new -visual- narratives. In doing so, Kok establishes an uncomfortable reflection on the monopolistic scientific stronghold deeply embedded in the western world.
Tom Kok studied at the HKU (BA) and the Piet Zwart Institute (MFA) Kok lives and works in Utrecht (NL) and also collaborates with Jan Willem Deiman as Kok&Deiman on a frequent basis.
