Nina Nowak (DE)

Nina Nowak (b. 1984, Poland) focuses in her work on the relation between animated and inanimate matter. In her installations, objects, videos and graphic works Nowak zooms into the borderlands of living and non-living matter, the topics of the (human) body and its  anorganic extensions. The installation as a functional set-up for different processes of material transformation as well the functional object as an extension of the human body are recurring themes in Nowaks work. Fragments of different sources such as anthropology, literature, history and biology are woven into a tight net of a hybrid narrative.

Nina Nowak studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and the Royal Institute of Fine Art in Stockholm. 2018 Nowak was been awarded by Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn (Cultural Foundation of Germany) for the one-year working grant program. The Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia supported Nowaks work with an Individual working grant in 2017. Nowak has been Artist in Residence at six-months-residency at Art Hub Copenhagen in 2019, and awarded with working and production grants by the Danish Art Foundation and the Danish Art Workshops in 2020. Her work has been exhibited at Galleri Susanne Ottesen in Copenhagen, museum kunstpalast in Düsseldorf and Horsens Kunstmuseum, which holds two of Nowak’s work in their permanent collection.
