Jason Hendrik Hansma produces works through periods of research that explore material histories as well as artistic and scientific methods resulting in a redefining of historic narratives. In the exhibition Antumbra, Hansma hints at the historic relationship between the Van Eyck and the Catholic Church.

The exhibition extends between two spaces, the Van Eyck and the Bergportaal of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht and shows a series of hand-blown glass pieces and photographs based on relics, bodies, refractions, light and colour. Here, identities, cultures and materials mesh and mutate resulting in inter-connective moments of proximity. Reflection gives way to refraction.
