On 21st of September, we welcome Asha Karami as our third writer-in-residence.
Asha Karami is a poet, a doctor who works in youth health care and a ringside physician at martial arts tournaments. In 2018, she won second place at the National Poetry Slam championship, having competed as an 'anti-performance' performer. Poems by Karami have previously appeared in various poetry magazines, e.g., nY, Tirade, Terras, Poëziekrant, Liegend Konijn, Revisor, De Gids and SampleKanon. Her highly lauded debut, Godface (De Bezige Bij, 2019), was nominated for the Herman de Coninckprijs, De Grote Poëzieprijs and E. du Perronprijs.
The Jan van Eyck Academie's writers’ programme is a collaboration with the Dutch Foundation for Literature. Every year several Dutch writers can take up a residency in the academy amidst other international artists, designers, curators and architects.
