The Painting In-Lab was created to reflect on issues that are specifically related to the practice and the reception of painting. The Lab gathers once a month to discuss a text, a specific theme or the work of an artist. It started discussing Bridget Riley’s 1996 text ‘Painting Now’ followed by Albert Camus’ 1957 lecture ‘Create Dangerously’. The Lab also engages in critiques of participant’s work and in exhibition visits. Throughout the year the Lab invites some international painters to Van Eyck for studio visits and/or talks.
