Gerda Blees is our new writer-in-residence, she will stay at the Jan van Eyck for 3 months.
Gerda Blees (1985) won the Nieuwe Proza Prijs in 2016 for her story Zomerkroos. Her short story collection Aan doodgaan dachten we niet was published in 2017 and her poetry debut Dwaallichten was released in 2018. This year her first novel Wij zijn licht (publisher: Uitgeverij Podium) came out, receiving rave reviews. Blees also studies Fine Arts at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
At the Jan van Eyck Academie she will be working on a new novel, merging science fiction and reality. During her stay, Blees will explore how a story can be told not only through language, but also in a different, visual way, using the facilities and expertise in the Labs and exchanging ideas with other participants.
The Jan van Eyck Academie's writer-in-residence programme is a collaboration with the Dutch Foundation for Literature. Every year several Dutch writers can take up a residency in the academy amidst other international artists, designers, curators and architects.
