As commissioned by Van Eyck, visual artist Jeroen van Bergen has realised the artwork Passage at the archway. The idea behind the work is to make an inviting gesture and establish a bridge between the street and the Van Eyck gardens. Van Bergen was asked to use the existing ‘vernacular’ architecture, a hodgepodge of cubby-holes, lean-tos and compartments. The result is a playful work that blends local and international elements, that conjures up the feel of bazaars and mazes and alleyways and gates and kiosks.
