On 24 September, the collaboration between the Van Eyck and the cultural institution Bureau Europa takes shape in the form of a conversation about utopias. The exhibition Coming Soon, Real Imaginary Futures presented a landscape of alternative social systems and included a vast range of projects.
Slow Motion, Far Forward is an evening in which several speakers, a.o. Merijn Oudenampsen (sociologist), Lara Schrijver (architectural historian), Ilse van Rijn (art theoretician /writer), Melanie Bonajo (artist) and Saskia van Stein (director Bureau Europa) will address the question of how to understand utopia in a contemporary context. What role, necessity, and place do projections of an alternative future have for understanding the present? Can thinking about utopias be an instrument for boundary-crossing ideas, and if so, how?
