Between Cannibals

At 18:30 on Thursday, 23 January, the Jan van Eyck Academie will welcome visual artist and filmmaker Bernardo Zanotta who will present the following screenings and invite you take part in a Q&A session.

Between Cannibals (video-compillation, 8min)
In His Bold Gaze (work in progress, 19min)
Heart of Hunger (2018, 29min)

Zanotta's work navigates across the politics of fiction and the history of sexuality, currently drawing on the emancipatory potential of the Gothic genre in Latin American contexts, as well as on the shared history between cannibalism and homosexuality from a decolonial perspective.

Bernardo Zanotta

He holds a BA degree in Moving Image from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, where he is currently a research fellow at LAPS (Lectoraat Art & Public Space). In recent years, he has exhibited in art spaces such as Nieuwe Vide, SIGN, Hotel Maria Kapel, Stockholm Supermarket Artfair and PS Mirabel.

This event is the last event organized by the In-Lab Bait & Switch, organized by participants Anna Moreno, Kent Chan, and Mat Do.
Fiction are the (re)imaginations of realities, that in its subsequent conception bears the potential to affect the realities that it derives from. Art in its tangential relationship to reality often puts it in close proximity, but often differing operations from fiction. Fiction allows us countless opportunities to invent new worlds, summon ideas and furnish futures. Could we garner a deeper understanding of both through the lens of the other?

Through workshops and lectures, this In-Lab proposes to examine fiction through different perspectives: its radical potential, failures, engenderment and dilution.
